Change Icons On Desktop [exclusive] May 2026
Follow Steps 4–7 from the Windows 11 instructions above. Part 4: Restore Default Icons If you want to revert all icons to their original Windows look:
Right-click it and select Show more options (Windows 11) → Send to → Desktop (create shortcut) . change icons on desktop
Select Properties from the menu.
Click OK , then Apply , then OK . For Windows 10: Step 1: Right-click the desktop and select Personalize . Follow Steps 4–7 from the Windows 11 instructions above
In the new window, select the icon you want to change (e.g., Recycle Bin (full) ). Click OK , then Apply , then OK
Under "Related Settings," click Desktop icon settings .
Click OK , then Apply , and finally OK again. Tip: If the icon doesn't change immediately, try refreshing the desktop (right-click desktop → Refresh or press F5 ). Part 2: Change a Desktop Shortcut’s Image (The App Itself) You cannot change the icon of a pinned taskbar app or a standard ".exe" file directly. You must create a shortcut first.
