A shadow fell over her. A man, tall and lean, holding a large black umbrella. He had a calm, almost tired face, with glasses that were speckled with rain.

She was supposed to be at a client meeting across town. Instead, she was stranded outside a labyrinthine apartment complex she didn't recognize, watching the world turn into a watercolor blur. heyzo heyzo-2002 part1

"Damn." She looked at the paper, then at the row of mail slots. One was slightly ajar. Apartment 204. A shadow fell over her

The man looked at her, then at the rain lashing the windows, then back at her exhausted face. He shrugged. "The super leaves a master key under the mat for deliveries. Third floor, left." She was supposed to be at a client meeting across town

The door swung open. It was the man from the lobby. The one with the umbrella. But his glasses were off now. His tired face was gone, replaced by a sharper, more focused expression.

"Nobody's answering," he said, hanging up the receiver.
