Leo finally gave up on the door and turned. “She’s trying to set us up.”
Jamie grinned. “Plot?”

“You have got to be kidding me,” Leo muttered, jiggling the iron handle. The old cellar door didn’t budge. Behind him, a single bare bulb hummed, casting weak light over dusty racks of Château Margaux and forgotten vintage port.
The silence stretched, thick and unbearable. Leo could hear his own heartbeat. Could probably hear Jamie’s, too, if he listened. Neither of them moved. He didn’t believe him now
“Dinner’s not for another two hours.” Jamie stopped a foot away, close enough that Leo could smell his cologne—cedar and something sharp, like crushed rosemary. “Plenty of time to talk.”
