Meanwhile, (Michael Cera) has survived and found refuge with a cult-like group of expired canned goods led by a prophetic can of Spam (voiced by Edward Norton). This Spam preaches the “Gospel of the Fifth R” – a parody of the five stages of grief but twisted into a food-based apocalyptic doctrine. Barry, already mentally unstable, becomes the cult’s new disciple.

Back in Foodtopia’s ruins, (Edward Norton pulling double duty) and Lavash the flatbread (David Krumholtz) argue over whether to trust humans again or launch a suicide attack. The episode’s climax sees Frank and Brenda infiltrating the cult to rescue Barry. In a grotesque, over-the-top sequence, Frank accidentally activates The R5, and a bloody, slapstick massacre ensues where several minor food characters are blended into a “sacrificial smoothie.” Barry, finally snapping out of his delusion, helps destroy the machine by clogging its gears with his own twisted casing.
