Etymology and Origins The term Descarca (pronounced deh-SCAR-kah ) originates from the Old Solean dialect, meaning literally “to unburden” or “to flay the weight of self.” In the context of the Acolyte, it has come to signify a radical, heretical branch of the now-defunct Vethric Order. Unlike the traditional acolyte—who seeks to ascend through devotion, obedience, and the accretion of spiritual merit—the Descarca seeks to descend into a state of sacred emptiness.
