Call barring is a network-level feature that allows you to restrict certain types of outgoing or incoming calls on your mobile phone. Unlike Do Not Disturb (which silences notifications) or blocking a specific contact (which works on your device), call barring operates directly on your carrier’s network. This means the restrictions apply even if you change your SIM card to another phone. Call barring uses a set of standardized codes (known as GSM Supplementary Services codes) that communicate between your phone and your mobile network operator. When you activate a barring setting, your phone sends a command (e.g., **21*1234# ) to the network.
